On occasion, you come across a kitchen that was designed and constructed without proper range ventilation. This was one of those occasions. Cooking bacon gave this family of four PTSD due to triggering the fire alarm every time those savory pieces of pork were nearing their fried perfection. Needless to say, installing a range hood over the island was priority #1 when the owners invited me to design and oversee their kitchen update. This particular request was not simple as the kitchen had a second floor with floor joists running in a direction which dictated furthest access to external air. But, the team persevered and delivered a beautiful, custom walnut-wrapped ceiling mount Zephyr Lux range hood, guaranteed to draw smoke up and out. Bring on the bacon!

The open concept kitchen necessitated consideration of near by and adjacent features, such as the existing wall color, and the dining and living room furnishings and architectural elements. The final result bridges the three spaces together via a smooth and complementary aesthetic. In addition to the range hood, we replaced one lower cabinet with a locking beverage cooler, lowered the island bar to counter height, replaced the island counter top, polished the perimeter marble counters, painted the whole kitchen and ceiling, installed a simple yet sophisticated back splash tile and a more tantalizing mosaic marble and brass tile on the seat-side of the island, which visitors see when they entery the room. The brass in the mosaic unites the interior gold leaf in the new and sexy, low hanging pendants. All new cabinet hardware and faucet.
